{"id":383,"date":"2009-09-03T07:54:26","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T14:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hamsterinawheel.ca\/?p=383"},"modified":"2009-09-03T07:54:26","modified_gmt":"2009-09-03T14:54:26","slug":"considering-switching-to-a-real-voip-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hamsterinawheel.ca\/?p=383","title":{"rendered":"Considering switching to a &#8220;real&#8221; VOIP service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m considering switching our residential phone service to VOIP.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re currently paying close to $40\/month; which includes a network access fee that was cleverly concealed from us until the first bill.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve estimated that our bill would come down to about $10\/month.<\/p>\n<p>Our existing service is provided by our cable provider, and although it is VOIP, it has arbitrary restrictions and costs that makes it more similar to a typical analog landline.<\/p>\n<p>Benefits would be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>lower cost<\/li>\n<li>unlimited call blocking (no limit on the number of blocked numbers)<\/li>\n<li>multiple phone numbers, in different area codes<\/li>\n<li>can be used away from home, using VOIP software on a computer or a cell phone (Fring seems to do this.)
